Eating, exploring and enjoying life

Stone Fruit Season

Stone fruit season is in its prime here in New Zealand. Cherries, apricots, peaches, plums and nectarines are abundant and I am taking full advantage.

I’ve set up a weekly automatic delivery from Jackson’s Orchard in Cromwell. Every Tuesday or Wednesday I receive a medium sizes box of fresh fruit and some (very few) vegetables. This week’s box had: huge peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, cherries, beautiful raspberries, strawberries and one lonely red capsicum.

The capsicum was put out of its misery and consumed in tonight’s dinner. The fruit is so amazing and yummy. I’m eating several pieces a day and making juice smoothies with the strawberries. It’s heavenly.

I’ll be in fruity bliss well into February and will then look  forward to the Feijoa season. There was a time when I gave up fruit (because of its sugar content) but no longer. Life’s too short to give up the  enjoyment of a fresh, juicy peach or a bowl full of cherries!
