How to be a Smuggler

Making healthy choices is usually not a top priority for children ( or some adults either). People who refuse to see the faults of the white stuff really shit me but it’s their health, eh? And by white stuff, I mean refined foods like white flour, pasta, bread, rice and sugar.

I do try to eat less sugar but that doesn’t mean I never have it or  the other whiteys (and sometimes that shits me but nobody’s perfect). Thankfully, I raised my son on wholemeal bread so when he gets white bread he knows it’s a “treat”, kind of like a chocolate bar. He also readily eats brown rice, wholemeal baking and pasta sauce with vegetables. But aside from the bread, he didn’t  always accept the healthier options (wholemeal or vegetables either). At first, I had to be a bit sneaky about it. My advice is to ease into a change and don’t ban the white stuff for good. I used to think moderation was unachievable but my choices seem to sway towards that notion these days.

A Rainy Day 3

I spent the whole day in my pjamas; it was great!! After a sleep-in until 10am, I used little to no energy so I didn’t need much food. It was great to have a total day off!!

Breakfast (10:30am)

  • Oatmeal with cinnamon, organic sultanas, grated apple, chia seeds
  • Decaf coffee with rice milk
  • Bromelain supplement
  • Vit C 1000mg


  • No proper lunch- a late breakfast was enough to keep me going(I didn’t need much energy for lazing on the bed)
  • I snacked on toasted seeds and nuts
  • Herbal tea
  • Vit C 1000mg


  • Fried brown rice with free-range egg, 5-spice and Braggs sauce and sauteed garlic, ginger, zucchini, cabbage, toasted seeds and nuts.
  • Tomato relish
  • Homemade apple sauce with goji berries
  • Vit C 1000mg
  • Fried brown rice with egg and sauteed veggies


  • Spiced Rooibos Tea with rice milk

Physically: My nose was very runny most the day and I sneezed over and over!! Very annoying. I don’t feel ill or like I’m coming down with anything. I have been slightly wheezy in the evening and will probably take a puff of ventolin before bed. Otherwise, all is well.
