You Are What You Eat.

This post marks the end of the first week of a new year and new regime. Although I did not blog everyday, by now you get the gist of what my daily diet will be: oatmeal, rice, fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds,  fish, chicken, smoothies,  decaf coffee, rooibos tea(and more, of course) are all foods that are healthy and “clean”.

Clean eating is free of excess sugar, fats, heavy sauces and processed ingredients. Remember the old saying, “You are what you eat”?

Now that I have “survived” the first week with NO issues, I will aim to blog 2-3 times weekly about my personal journey. As time permits, I will include one health and wellbeing piece. For today though, here’s what happened.

Weight: 50kgs

Exercise: 20 minute walk after dinner

Breakfast:

  • Fruit smoothie with LSA and rice milk
  • A handful of toasted nuts
  • Decaf coffee with rice milk
  • Vit C 1000mg
  • Bromelain

Early Lunch:

  • Salmon and vegetable risotto
  • One raw carrot
  • Vit C 1000mg

Mid-Afternoon

  • Decaf soy latte

Early Dinner

  • Home-cooked roast free-range chicken with roast potato, beetroot, onion, garlic, carrot and steamed peas and green beans with a small amount of homemade, gluten free gravy.
  • Vit C 1000mg

Physically: I feel awesome.

  • I am drinking more water.
  • I am having daily bowel movements with NO issues.
  •  I am not having that afternoon tired feeling that I have when I eat excess sugar or bread products.
  • My sinuses are improving greatly.
  • I’ve only used my ventolin twice this entire first week.

There is so much literature out there at the moment about New Year resolutions and how they are set up to make you fail or how you can achieve them or whatever. I think if you are true to yourself and you are doing something entirely for yourself, there can be no failure. 2012 is going to be a great year; I can feel it.

Day Two – Pizza Temptation

Well, it’s 10pm and I’ve survived another day of the new me!! I am hungry right now though!! Today could have been a disaster because I hosted a children’s birthday party!!

The cake didn’t tempt me but  I nearly licked the spoon while mixing up icing. The lollies nor the chocolate made me fold. The meaty, cheesy pizza at dinner time looked damn yummy though. Again, I had to resist habit of just picking up a piece!!

My food intake is so much less than it was 2 days ago. I’m lucky to have a great metobolism so I’ve already shed 1kg (just about). I know some people will hate me for this. BTW, I am 155cm tall.

My “normal” weight is 48 kgs. This isn’t about the weight, it’s about my health issues but I want to document how fast I can lose weight (toxins) by eating healthier.

Weight: 50.4kgs

Breakfast:

  • Oatmeal with cinnamon, chia seeds, organic sultanas, fresh apple
  • Decaf coffee with rice milk
  • 1 Bromelain supplement
  • 1 1000mg Vitamin C supplement

Mid-morning

  • nothing – at party where I witnessed cake eating, lollie sucking and juice guzzling

Lunch

  • Left-over Brown rice salad (carrot, green capsicum etc)
  • 1 Strawberry
  • 3 orange segments
  • handful of plain potato chips
  • 1 small glass of pineapple juice

Mid-afternoon

  • 1 Vitamin C supplement
  • Decaf, soy flatwhite (like a Latte)
  • 1 orange

Dinner

  • Fresh mixed vegetable salad with, pumpkin seeds, tuna, olive oil and lemon

Evening

  • 1 spiced Rooibos tea with rice milk
  • 1 Vit C supplement

Physically: Today was the first morning in weeks that I didn’t need my ventolin!!! I’ve used it only once today, where I was using up to 4-6 times per day on some days.

Goal for tomorrow: DRINK MORE WATER

Aiming For Rock Bottom

It’s December 30th and I’ve been on my non-stop eating mission for nearly 3 months now.

It’s never a good idea so start a new lifetstyle or diet near or during the holidays, that is why I am actively eating and drinking my way to the New Year.

I know very well that the more unhealthy foods I eat and the more alcohol I drink will lead to feeling unfit, exhausted and generally unwell. I am there.

As I write this, I am on my 3rd beer of the evening. It’s good. It’s summer, the sun is still high in the New Zealand sky and after a day at work, I feel entitled to a cold beer. I haven’t even had dinner. The beer is acting like a drink and a meal, all-in-one. If I do eat later, it will be a ham and cheese sandwich on white bread followed by chocolate or ginger bread cake with thickened cream. All the things I will omit from my diet as of 12:01, January 1, 2012.

The more I consume the naughties, the more I welcome this time. I have felt fat, tired and unwell for days now. There is no doubt that I will go through some withdrawal and I’ll be moody for the first few days but I’m ready to give it a shot…….once again.

Once again, I will abstain from: wheat, dairy, yeast, alcohol, red meat, pork, processed meats and limit (but not give up) sugar and processed foods. The goal is: Jan 1 – April 30.

I have just over 24 hours left to fill my desire for bread, chocolate, beer, ham, bacon, steak, cake, cheese, yogurt and more. The list is long, too long to go on.

I will need to keep a daily food diary and I’ll post it here on Kai Chronicles. It’s not going to be easy and I accept that. Good luck to all of you who are giving a new lifestyle or diet  a go this New Year!!!

Here’s to a Happy, Healthy New Year!!
